SAFE KIDS - Amador/Calaveras

|
Sutter Amador Hospital is the lead organization fulfilling the mission of the national SAFE KIDS campaign in our community. Since May 2002, more than 2,100 residents have benefited from car seat checks, bicycle rodeos and health and safety fairs.
What is the Campaign's Purpose? The mission of the national SAFE KIDS campaign is clear – to prevent injuries and deaths to children ages 14 and under from the following:
|
|
Motor vehicle crashes and pedestrian injuries
Bicycle crashes
Drownings
Fires and scald burns
Poisonings
Unintentional shootings
Falls
Airway Obstruction
|
How Does the Chapter Help? In addition to participating in a variety of health and safety fairs in Amador and Calaveras counties, the group organizes several car seat checks in both communities throughout the year. At these free events, certified child passenger safety (CPS) technicians check if the car seats being used have been recalled, are the wrong size for the child or are improperly installed. The CPS technicians also educate parents about the proper installation and use of car seats. If a family cannot afford a car seat, the chapter has them available at low cost or no cost.
Who Leads the Chapter? SAFE KIDS - Amador/Calaveras meets monthly to plan child safety events and is led by President Nancy Joyner of the Amador County Public Health Department, Vice President Jody Boetzer of Sutter Amador Hospital, Treasurer Kathleen Chase and Co-Secretaries Cathy Wagner and Stephenie Giusto of Calaveras Head Start.
Who Else is Involved? Chapter members include representatives from Calaveras County Health Department (funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety), Amador and Calaveras California Highway Patrol, Kiwanis, Angels Camp Police Department, Jackson Police Department, Voices for Families, Amador Sheriff’s Department, HRC Childcare Resources, Sutter Amador Health Centers, Sutter Amador Hospital, Sutter Creek Police Department, ATCAA, Jackson Head Start, Amador Fire Safe Council, Pine Grove Civic Improvement Club, Ione Police Department, Amador County Health Department and State Farm Insurance.
